The 2023 ORA Singers Young Composers' Programme comes to a close with the Showcase Concert. ORA Singers perform their 10 Young Composers' completed pieces in concert to a Panel of Adjudicators and a live and online audience. A prize-giving follows.

THREE CHOIRS FESTIVAL

Forty voices weave masterfully together in Tallis’ sublime Spem in Alium, with Gloucestershire chamber choir the Oriel Singers joining the award-winning ORA Singers for this performance. In a special premiere, they will then perform a choral arrangement of Vaughan Williams’ evocative Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, which received its original premiere in this same building.

The world-class award-winning vocal ensemble in a programme inspired by the iconic masterpiece Ave Verum Corpus by William Byrd in this the 400th anniversary year of his death. Included in the programme are works by Hildegard of Bingen, Orlando de Lassus, Richard Dering, with plainchant and works by contemporary composers Roxanna Panufnik, Caroline Shaw, Roderick Williams and Joanna Marsh.

ORA Singers perform a unique programme opening with the emblematic Miserere by Allegri, ending with the fascinating setting to music of the same text by the Scottish composer, James MacMillan. A collection of works by Renaissance composers,Victoria, Palestrina, Lassus, Guerrero, feature, accompanied with their more recent echoes from McDowall, Poulenc, Vilette, and Barber.
